RIP Bernard Vanderbles

Monday, December 26, 2011, Tim got a phone call from his dad who he hasn't talked to in over a year. He called to tell Tim that his grandfather wasn't doing very well, his parkinson's got worse and he couldn't really swallow solid foods. So Monday, we went to see Tim's dad. It was a nice visit. His dad was very talkative. We went that Friday to see his grandpa and family and to show our support. Then, January 2, 2012, we got the dreaded phone call that he had passed away. The services were Wednesday and Thursday. It was beautiful. It was my first actual funeral mass. I'd been to calling hours before but never to the mass. It was heartbreaking thinking that was the last time his family would have a body to touch or hold. His grandparents were married for 66 years. How is his grandma going to cope?

It's like a blessing in disguise, though. It got Tim talking to his family again. He got the call from them that he'd been waiting for, showing that he's not the only one who tries. We added 10 to our wedding guest list. :)

Needless to say, this holiday season was a very busy and emotional one. I am so glad that it's over and that we can finally settle back down into a routine.

We cleaned the house very good before we went to the services because my grandma stayed with the dogs. We've kind of been maintaining it, especially the kitchen counter which normally gets cluttered quickly. It makes us both feel good that we are keeping it relatively clean. There is still some work to be done but I'm a little more proud of my house, now. Aside from the fact that it's January 10 and I have yet to take down the Christmas decorations, but like I said, it's been a very busy and emotional holiday season.
